Former Central Catholic standout Eugene Jarvis knows a thing or two about winning championships having won a WPIAL and PIAA title in 2004. He also knows a thing or two about running the football as evident by his 3720 rushing yards at Kent State. As a guest on our game of the week broadcast, Jarvis proudly witnessed a bruising Quad-A ground war between his alma mater and Jack McCurry's North Hills Indians.
Central Catholic senior tailback Luigi Lista-Brinza's 124 yards on the ground on 18 carries set the tone and helped sophomore QB Graham Adomitis settle into his 2nd career start.
In the end, it was senior fullback Leo Laughrey, who's 2 touchdowns (52,1) gave the No. 5 ranked Vikings all they would need as Central Catholic's defense notched its second shutout in as many weeks improving to 2-0 overall with a 14-0 victory over the Indians Friday night.
In the final three quarters the two teams combined for 19 penalities for 185 yards.
The blue and gold will take on Canon-McMillan (0-2) next Friday night at Fox Chapel while the Indians fall to (1-1) before returning home to face Shaler (0-2). Kickoffs for both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Injury Note: North Hills senior running back Tyler Reddick carried the Indians offense throughout the evening until he went down awkwardly as he was tackled while returning a kickoff late in the 4th quarter. He was carted off the field and taken out of Gesling Stadium in an ambulance after stumbling to his feet and falling to the turf with what appeared to be concussion-like symptoms. This, after dynamic playmaker Jordan Blackmon, who rushed for 115 yards and 2 TD's in the season opener, left the game in the 1st quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
