Former Rochester football star De'Andre Moon was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in New Brighton.
The shooting took place at the New Brighton Marina, according to Beaver County Coroner. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Moon, 18, rushed for 1,675 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior in 2011. He had a football scholarship to Concord University in Athens, West Virginia.
Moon was cousins of former Hopewell star running back Rushel Shell, the WPIAL's all-time leading rusher.
Shell posted on his Twitter account. "Me and moon was 5 running the Ambridge playground he was one person I could say was never scared god just got him a strong ANGEL! #R.I.P 11,"
The Rochester Area School District said grief counselors will be available to students and members of the community at the high school from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday.
